Highs
Sprightly handling (for a truck), great V-8 exhaust note, muscular towing capacity.
Lows
High curb weight offsets the V-8's power, lacks innovation compared with the Honda Ridgeline.
What's New
Redesigned for 2005; 2008 sees new exterior and interior design, utility rails in cargo bed, E85-compatable V-8.
Behind The Wheel
Surprisingly sharp through our lane-change test, but braking is disappointing.
Capsule Review
Restyled for 2008, the Dakota has a tougher, boxier look. Two body styles are available: Extended Cab and Crew Cab, the former available with a six-foot bed and the latter offering four doors. The Dakota's optional 4.7-liter V-8 is updated to produce more power and torque.
